4th of July Family Activities in Goleta CA

The 4th of July is always a great time for celebrating.   • Rancho La Patera & Stow House: The Goleta Valley Historical Society presents its 40th Annual Old-Fashioned 4th of July Celebration on July 4 from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. Festival features live music, hayrides, delicious BBQ, games, local artists, the old engine show, and much more. $7 per adults, Children under 12 are free. Experience a historic ranch preserved for the community.
  • Fireworks: The 17th Annual Goleta Fireworks Festival will be launched on the 4th of July from Girsh Park. Join Goleta Rotary Clubs at the park for an afternoon of fun-filled entertainment for all ages, capped by a spectacular fireworks display. This family friendly, alcohol-free event takes place on Friday, July 4, from 4:00 to 9:30 p.m. at Girsh Park, which is located on the south side of the Camino Real Market Place. Tickets are $6 per person to enter; children 12 and under are free. Proceeds will benefit the Goleta Rotary Clubs’ Foundation providing support to local youth programs and other community activities. Kids’ activities include a Watermelon and Pie Eating Contest, John Deere Cars, Interactive Games, Hula Hoop Contest, Jumpers and Rock Climbing. Entertainment includes dancing and live music from Bushwood and Area 51.
  • Farmers’ Market: Find a little piece of Goleta to take home with your at the weekly Farmer’s Market. Each week the farmers in the marketplace display a colorful bounty of agricultural products grown right in our backyard. Seasonal diversity is available year round, rain or shine. Come. Shop. Socialize. Sundays: 10:00am – 2:00pm and Thursdays: 3:00pm – 6:00pm at the Camino Real Shopping Center, 7004 Marketplace Drive in Goleta.
  • Horse Show at Earl Warren Showgrounds (July 3-5): Experience the Santa Barbara National Horse Show, Multi Breed. Hours are 8:00am until the End of Classes. Admission and parking are free. Contact: Show office (805)687-8711.

Goleta’s Annual Dam Dinner – 2015

Don't Miss Goleta's Dam Dinner

The Dam Dinner is coming up on August 22nd. Have you RSVPd?  This year’s Dam Dinner will take place on Saturday, August 22 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Lake Los Carneros. You are invited to share a meal together while enjoying music and our beautiful natural surroundings. Bring your own dinner, or purchase one from the food truck that will be available. If you are so inclined, feel free to bring a dessert to share. Water, beer and wine will be sold. You will be able to purchase a Dam Dinner t-shirt in advance at City Hall or at the event for only $10. The event itself is free, but reservations are requested so that plenty of tables and chairs can be provided. Parking is available in the Stow House/Goleta Depot parking lot. Handicapped spots will be available along La Patera Lane.
To get to Lake Los Carneros from Santa Barbara, drive northbound on Highway 101 to the Los Carneros exit in Goleta. Turn right and drive 0.4 miles north to the parking lot for Stow House and the South Coast Railroad Museum. Follow the paved path past Stow House to the trails that lead around the lake.

  • Butterflies: You could have a chance to see the last of this year’s Monarch butterfly migration at The Goleta Butterfly Grove (Ellwood Main) in the Sperling Preserve on the Ellwood Mesa. Monarchs are usually found in Goleta from mid-November through mid-February and docents are available on weekends from 11am-2pm during these months.  As of January 17, there were approximately 2,400 monarch butterflies at the grove.
  • Trains: Couples will get a kick out of the Sweetheart Specials available February 15 and 16 at the Goleta Train Depot. Take a day-long trip along our beautiful coast line and enjoy the breathtaking Gaviota Coast, the legendary surfing beaches of the Hollister and Bixby ranches, Point Conception, the vineyards of the Edna Valley, and a variety of wildlife and botanical wonders. Includes a boxed lunch from Far Western Tavern.
  • Art: A Valentine’s Day Exhibition for Between Seer and Seen: Art+Love Exhibition:  Meet Mark Robert Halper, photographer of the critically acclaimed coffee table book Between Seer and Seen. His photographic portraits of local artists will have a special exhibition at the Santa Barbara Tennis Club for three weeks. Artists whose portraits will be on display have created original works of art to complement Halper’s work. Runs daily February 14 to March 7, 2014, from 10am to 9pm. 2375 Foothill Road in Santa Barbara. The Artist’s Reception on Friday, February 14, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, is open to the public.
